AC charging supplies alternating current from the grid to the vehicle, where the onboard charger converts it into direct current for the battery. Because the onboard charger has to fit inside the car, AC charging power is limited - most electric cars sold in India accept between 3.3 kW and 11 kW.
AC charging is ideal for homes, workplaces, hotels and housing societies where vehicles are parked for several hours. It is usually the cheapest way to charge and is gentle on the battery. Cars in India typically use the Type 2 connector for AC charging.
