Homes in Tamil Nadu are supplied by Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (TNPDCL), the distribution company formed from the restructuring of TANGEDCO. If your home charger needs a higher sanctioned load, the load enhancement is applied for with TNPDCL. We tell you during the assessment whether this is likely to be needed.
The Tamil Nadu Electric Vehicles Policy 2023 supports charging infrastructure in the state and identifies cities including Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Salem and Tirunelveli as focus areas for e-mobility. Its incentives are aimed mainly at public charging stations rather than home chargers.
Under the Ministry of Power’s 2024 guidelines, owners can charge on their existing connection (with a load increase if required) or request a separate metered connection for EV charging. Ask TNPDCL about the current options and tariff for your premises before deciding.
Coastal humidity and heavy north-east monsoon rain make enclosure ratings, sealed cable entries and good earthing especially important for chargers in open or semi-covered parking.
